Black Velvet: an exploration of tradition

While parsing through the Iowa liquor data, I kept seeing Black Velvet come up. This is a liquor I was completely unfamiliar with, so I felt some more investigation was needed. Black Velvet continued to show up at or near the top of the list for sales. I knew I needed some more information into this phenomenon, so I called up the Hy-Vee distributor in Des Moines to get some more information. I spoke with John who has over thirty years of experience in the industry. He informed me that for as long as he could remember, Black Velvet was just kind of the default mixer for many people. He also informed me that it was much more popular with the older and rural populations of the state. That led me to create the visualization below.
